The challenge of designing this piece was the limited budget. Patricia, the director, and I wanted the world of the circus to be different from the world of the audience within the spectators. I chose the circus colors to be black, ivory, red, and a hint of orange. The other actors were in shades of brown. The costumes were pulled from an extensive collection at UC Davis. Once they were pulled. I created the look of each character from the items on hand. The clown and wings were constructed in the costume shop. Research of vintage circus items and wings of birds, brought the ideas together.
